An All-Star Design Team Took Inspiration From a Notable English Architect for This Hamptons Home

Set on five lush acres near the ocean, this newly built Hamptons home was inspired by the timeless architecture of Sir Edwin Lutyens, known for his steep rooflines, grand chimneys, and classic English country homes. To bring that vision to life, the homeowner partnered with Kligerman Architecture & Design, a firm celebrated for its mastery of traditional architecture with a fresh perspective.

Finding the right interior designer, however, took more time. The homeowner wanted someone who could balance creativity with strong organization—essential when building a 15,000-square-foot home from the ground up. After searching locally, she reached out directly to London- and New York–based designer Bryan O’Sullivan Studio after discovering his work online. By chance, O’Sullivan was heading to New York just days later, and the partnership clicked immediately.

Inspired by both the sweeping landscape and Kligerman’s architectural plans, O’Sullivan approached the interiors with a mix of warmth, sophistication, and livability. Together, he and the homeowner developed a soft, earthy palette of dusty peach, sage green, burnt ochre, and rich natural wood tones. While the home references classic Arts and Crafts design, the interiors were intentionally designed to feel relaxed, modern, and family-friendly.

Throughout the house, traditional craftsmanship is balanced with playful and inviting details. In the living room, curved apricot-toned sofas create a cozy gathering space beneath a dramatic bronze pendant sourced in Paris. O’Sullivan focused on creating rooms that feel elegant without being overly formal—spaces the family would genuinely use every day.

One of the home’s standout spaces is a sun-filled gallery inspired by traditional orangeries. Connecting the living and dining rooms, the space is lined with painted wood paneling and framed by French doors overlooking the gardens. Filled with natural light, brick floors, and lemon trees, it has become the homeowner’s favorite place in the house.

The surrounding landscape, designed by Deborah Nevins & Associates, creates a seamless connection between the home and its grounds, echoing the harmony between architecture and gardens that defined many historic English estates. Though inspired by the past, the home ultimately feels fresh, personal, and deeply suited for modern family life.

For entertaining, the homeowner also wanted an unexpected, moodier space within the home. The result is a stylish bar designed for casual gatherings and dinner parties—an inviting spot that has quickly become a favorite destination whenever guests visit.
