Holiday Tipping Guide

While holiday tipping is not mandatory, it’s a long-standing custom—and a meaningful way to show appreciation for the people who support your home and daily life. Use this guide as a general framework when deciding who to tip and how much.

 

Building Staff

Super / Resident Manager

  • Average: $150–$300

  • Range: $100–$500

Doorman / Concierge

  • Average: $75–$200

  • Range: $50–$500

Porter, Handyman, Maintenance Staff

  • Average: $25–$50

  • Range: $20–$250

Garage Attendant

  • Average: $25–$75

  • Range: $20–$100

 

Non-Building Service Providers

Cleaning Person / Housekeeper

  • Typically one to two weeks’ pay

Cleaning Service

  • Typically one to two weeks’ pay

Full-Time Nanny

  • Typically one to two weeks’ pay

Regular Babysitter

  • $50–$100 

Regular Dog Walker

  • About one week’s pay

UPS Delivery Driver

  • $25–$50

Mail Carrier

  • By law, mail carriers cannot accept cash or gifts valued over $20.
